While the size of the camera is intriguing, the real draw is the image quality.  Most IP camera manufacturers today use CMOS sensors rather than CCD due to their lower cost of manufacturing.  Basler has bucked this trend by using high performance Sony CCD sensors.  When compared to CMOS, CCD sensors create higher-quality, lower-noise images.  CCD sensors are also much more sensitive to light which has allowed Basler to produce the best performing cameras on the market in low light situations.  True day/night functionality is provided via an automatically retractable IR-cut filter that produces vibrant color images in daylight and crisp black and white images at night.  No other IP camera on the market produces better images with minimal ambient light.
With the upcoming release of Basler’s second generation of cameras, the features above will be complimented with incredibly high frame rate capabilities.  The new BIP2 series VGA resolution camera will generate a 100fps stream in MJPEG, MPEG4 or H.264. 100fps!  Imagine the possibilities in casinos, traffic monitoring and high-speed applications.
