Shipping now the new Digium Asterisk Appliance
Every now and then in addition to a cool new product we also see an interesting shift in business model. With the new Digium Asterisk Appliance, Digium is introducing not only a new product but also adding a small twist that has the potential of providing the reseller with a small extra income in the future. In a way its like testing of the market and a way to teach everyone how to build-in some margin for services that will need to be provided. The VoIP only unit released now can be upgraded to Hybrid with external gateways like AudioCodes MP114 or MP118. (ABP has FAQ online on how to configure this) and you can resell any SIP Trunk service.
The Asterisk Appliance (AA50) is a standalone embedded Asterisk-based PBX targeting small to medium businesses (2-50 users), remote branch offices of larger organizations, and managed service providers for on-premise CPE-based solutions with SIP or IAX trunking.
The AA50 features the commercially licensed Asterisk Business Editionâ„ ¢ software, as well as the first Digium developed AsteriskGUI. The AsteriskGUI was created to make the configuration, management, and fine tuning of your Asterisk system less complicated by providing an easy to use graphical interface which is different from most interfaces that have been created for use with Asterisk, because it can manipulate the Asterisk configuration files; meaning changes in each are reflected in the other in real time.

The AA50 comes in different flavors and offers a VoIP only and hybrid solution (supporting a combination of VoIP trunks and PSTN lines) with up to eight Analog Ports for enterprise customers who need both VoIP and Analog.
The AA50 comes in three models:
S800i (only VoIP)
S844i with 4 FXO and 4 FXS ports
S808i with 8 FXO ports
Note: Initial units will be shipped with VoIP solution only.

Subscriptions Business Model
Subscriptions offer a manufacturer backed support mechanism with proven market acceptance. The subscription business model will be launched for the AA50, so every AA50 will be sold with a Silver subscription and it can be upgraded to Gold or Platinum if required. This is a matrix of the benefits that will be offered at each of the three levels.
