New Mobotix D14

We are pleased to announce the NEW MOBOTIX D14
DualDome Camera. It is a weatherproof and shock-resistant 6.2-megapixel
surveillance camera that is the powerful successor to the MOBOTIX D12 cameras.

With two separately adjustable camera modules, each with 3.1
megapixels, the D14 offers a variety of ways to examine a scene because the two
modules can be combined to create one image. The D14 also provides a digital
PTZ and has no mechanical moving parts.

Impressive 6.2 Megapixels

Equipped with a 90° wide angle and tele lenses, the camera
can monitor an entire scene and, at the same time, the tele lens can record
portrait photos in front of a particular area, such as an entrance. With one
D14 installed on the wall, the two 90° lenses even allow 180° recording when
monitoring an entire parking lot, for example. With the addition of a digital
sensor switching function, the D14 can also be used as a day/night camera since
it can be equipped with one color and one black/white module ensuring the most
brilliant color during the day and high sensitivity at night.

Integrated Recording

The MOBOTIX D14 includes motion detection that can trigger
recording and alarm notifications can be sent via email or VoIP. It is also
compatible with the SIP audio protocol. The integrated DVR includes up to 64 GB
memory and records for weeks without a PC. If needed, the memory can be
extended to terabytes with an external NAS drive.

Low Installation Costs

Heating and cooling are not necessary. As a result, the very
low power consumption of approximately 4 watts via network cable (PoE) reduces
investment and operating costs, and provides an inexpensive back-up. A version
of the D14 that includes a stainless steel, vandalism-proof design with 3 mm
polycarbonate dome, and elegant wall and pole mounts is also available.

Higher Frame Rate and Echo Elimination

Compared to the previous model, the D14 now offers USB and
MxBus interfaces for extension modules such as I/O, GPS or RS232. The new, more
powerful processor in the camera allows higher frame rates of up to a 6.2
megapixel image format. Microphone and speaker are supported by new audio
functions that include echo elimination.

Video Management Software Included at No Charge

Recording and playback software from MOBOTIX is included in
the MOBOTIX D14 camera and is accessible via a Web browser. In addition, MxCC
Control Center software, which is ideal for larger projects of up to 1,000
cameras, or the easily manageable MxEasy software for smaller applications with
analyzing, administration and display features, are available free of charge.

Innovative use of the Mobotix Mx2Wire by integrator IPacket Networks

One of our Integrators, IPacket Networks recently used the Mobotix Mx2Wire to install a Q24 Hemispheric camera in elevators.  Elevators can be problematic as the Elevator company usually needs to be involved to run cable.  Mx2Wire allows you to run IP with PoE over one single wire pair up to 1500 feet.  Elevators usually have an extra pair of wire that you can tap into.  Below is the email we received from them discussing the project.

Thought you would like to see how the recent Elevator job turned out. These are in a 31 story building where we utilized the MX2Wire to run PoE down the existing Elevator Traveling Cable. We utilized a spare Shielded pair of 14 gauge wire, on the low voltage traveling cable. We installed into nine elevators, and a few other locations around the property. Customer seems very happy. They have already approved expanding a few more cameras.

The camera itself was installed where they used to have a ceiling light (like you see to the right and left here). We simply popped the one light fixture out, and plugged the camera pigtail directly into the MX2Wire directly above the camera. So – both the camera and the MX2Wire are serviceable from within the Elevator Car thereby avoiding the need to get the elevator mechanic involved when the cameras need service. As you can see, the remaining five lights provide plenty of light in the elevator.

The other end of the MX2Wire was located in the Elevator Mechanical on the roof of the building.

A Video is Worth a Million Words

by Mario Cuello, CEO, Epygi

Looking to install a security system in your business? The correct answer would be yes, because 75 percent of companies who have a security system have reported a reduction of loss, both internally and externally.[i] “The increasing need for security is driving the growth of the global video surveillance market [which] is expected to grow from $11.5 billion in 2008 to $37.7 billion in 2015 at a CAGR of 20.4% from 2010 to 2015.”[ii] After deciding to invest in a security system there is another question, what kind to get: analog or Internet Protocol (IP). For some people deciding between the two systems may be tough but the answer is actually simple; go IP.

What makes the switch from analog to IP worth it are the available features. The beauty of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology is the integration which allows the customer to use each feature seamlessly together. By connecting computers, office phones, cell phones and security systems, the users are able to work with ease. IP systems are much simpler than analog ones because it runs over Ethernet, so all that is needed is a POE switch and CAT5 cabling.

Some say a picture is worth a thousand words but when telling a story a video is worth more than that. Video is the most important feature on both systems, however with an IP system, the video footage from the cameras can be seen on a computer or cell phone in the office or at a remote location. Since the computers and phones are already connected to the IP PBX, users can just click and look at another view on either device. IP increases productivity because no time is spent trying to connect everything; it can all work simultaneously from one box.

Unlike analog cameras, IP systems are now in HD and allow PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) electronically without the need of moving parts that may fail over time. They have lights, motion detectors and an encrypted signal to permit secured communication and sound. It also allows the triggering of events such as phone calling via IP PBX to any phone. As the features of the IP cameras advance, face and license plate recognition become available. The versatility of IP cameras let the office be in control, on and off location.

Epygi’s Quadro line of IP PBXs use state-of-the-art technology to ensure proper integration of all VoIP features. This includes transferring calls to cell phones from computers, video conferencing, video surveillance, etc. Epygi has already installed video surveillance in Caracas, Venezuela, at the Millennium Mall. The mall, housed on six floors, with a total of 215 stores and restaurants services over one million visitors a month. To accommodate all of the mall’s visitors, the mall includes a 6-story underground parking facility. The administration office where visitors prepay their parking tickets is surveyed by Grandstream IP cameras. In order to provide maximum security, Epygi connected Grandstream IP cameras and video phones to the QuadroM32xs as IP extensions. Epygi does not require the purchase of any expensive licenses in order to activate point-to-point video calling on the QuadroM32x or our other line of QuadroM IP PBXs. In cases of emergencies, the cashiers can press a panic button which triggers the associated IP camera to stream a video feed to an IP video phone. Alternatively, an employee can call an IP camera through an IP video phone. Using Epygi’s IP video surveillance on a QuadroM IP PBX allows the user to be in control and if a six story mall could handle it, so could a SMB.

To summarize in four words, IP cameras are better, faster, easier and cheaper.

The Revolutionary Hemispheric Q24 from Mobotix is now available in Black

Mobotix has released their Hemispheric camera in black.  The Q24 is a 360 degree camera that sees corner to corner of a room with no blind spots.  In many instances one camera can be used in place of three or four traditional ones.  Since many restaurants and bars among other places have black ceilings it only makes sense to use a black Q24 in these places.  Below I have posted a picture of one mounted to the ceiling of our foyer at ABP.

Introducing the Mobotix T24 Door Station in Silver

The Mobotix T24 is now available in Silver.

MOBOTIX Hemispheric T24 IP Video Door StationComplete Panorama View for Superior Overview

Door stations with integrated cameras have been around for years. They are almost always based on analog TV technology that is over 60 years old and, because of the system involved, can only deliver very low image quality. Such systems only enable limited two-way communication. The station is installed using a complex cabling and power supply system.

The new T24 IP Video Door Station from MOBOTIX offers a modern, powerful solution that is easy to install and that has never been available to the market until now. The T24 records all events outside the house door with sound; automatically when the doorbell is rang, with movement in the image or upon triggering a contact.

Complete video solution with powerful performance:

• Complete Panorama view from wall to wall and from floor to ceiling thanks to Hemispheric technology

• Recording with sound of all activities in front of the door, automatically around the lock

• Two-way video worldwide via IP telephony or computer with remote door-opening function

• Integrated messaging features for leaving and retrieving messages directly at the door

• Keyless entry using PIN code or transponder with intelligent time control

• Simple installation, optional use of two existing bell wires instead of network cable using Mx2Wire

Currently, it is only the T24 portion (upper third with camera and two buttons) but it fits nicely in the Silver frames from Siedle. With the Siedle accessories it is possible to create your own custom solution based on your needs. The easiest way to do this is to use the T24 configurator which is located here:

http://www.mobotix.com/eng_US/Products/Home-Automation/IP-Video-Door-Station-T24/Configurator-T24s

Here you can choose white or silver, in-wall or surface, 115v or 230v. You then select the accessories you would like such as ambient light, cal buttons, card reader, etc. Once select press the continue to parts list and it will give you a complete parts list which you can send to ABP to order.

Difference between the Mobotix NPA-Set and NPA-Set-Blue

Recently some customers have asked us if they can use old Mobotix PoE injectors on models ending in 24 (M24, D24, T24, Q24) and if the old PoE injectors will work on models ending in 12 (M12, D12).  I hope to clarify this in this document.  When Mobotix built their first camera back in 1999, the PoE standard had not been ratified yet.  They defined their own structure to provide power over the Ethernet cable.  As luck would have it the ratified standard used different pins to provide power than what Mobotix had chosen.  Thus the early Models of Mobotix cameras (M1 and M10) will only work with the original non-standard PoE injector, the NPA-Set.  When the 12 and 22 models were developed Mobotix built in support for both their non-standard PoE and standard PoE so that they would work with any standard injector or their own non-compliant one.  When the 24 models were developed PoE was a ratified standard so Mobotix dropped support for their non-standard PoE and only included support for the ratified standard.  Thus the NPA-Set will work with:

(M12, D12, M22, D22, Q22, M10, M1 and D10)

and the NPA-Set-Blue will work with:

(All Mobotix cameras except M1 and M10 as well as any PoE device that meets the PoE ratified standard)

In addition, both models have built in cross-over so that you can plug the camera directly into a computer or into a switch.  It is simply a matter of plugging the camera cable into a different side of the injector.  The NPA-Set-Blue has also added the ability to take any input from 12-230v so is suitable for any country and designs with Solar, Wind, Battery, etc.
