ABP participates in TechSecSol – The Security Industry Discovers the SIP Protocol
Last week we had the honor to have our first booth at a TechSecSol show. The show fortunately was in Dallas so we didn’t have to travel far and got to spend a lot of time with all the key players in this industry.
The current transformation and convergence in the world of security cameras is a Deja Vu for us at ABP Technology. We are see the same issues and struggles that the legacy phone systems world has gone through all over again in the security business. Everyone wants to hold-on to proprietary solutions for as long as possible and only half heartedly embraces open standards only to discover that in the end the winner is the player who went Open Standard the fastest.
Like in telephony not all specialty resellers in the security space are switching from analog to IP. Unfortunately the security world in IP has very few accepted standards in this space yet and there is even still a debate on codecs and protocols.
We are seeing that SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) has not yet been discovered by most Security Vendors but is an ideal protocol for this industry as Mobotix has proven with their world class M12 and M22 Series of IP Cameras with built in two-way audio. SIP can not only act as the glue to tie together Security Systems with IP Telephony and Paging for transmitting alarms and messaging but since its a event driven multimedia protocol and can be freely extended like XML and already has SIP subscribe and SIP Notifies for real-time events we would not be surprised at all if SIP soon became a leading protocol in the security and Alarm industry.
