ABI Research predicts increasing growth in Biometrics
ABI Research released a report in November predicting increasing growth in biometrics over the next five years from $3 billion in 2008 to $7.3 billion in 2013, as more people begin using biometric systems for personal data management and security.
Now is a great time to start looking at IP and standards based systems. One such system is from e-DATA. I have a white paper on their implementation here:
Their system uses and IP based controller with a built in Java based server to allow administration from any web browser. Add to that a fingerprint reader with finger, HID, and Pin functions that can be combined in any order and you can see there is quite a lot of flexibility. Some of our integrators are starting to add these systems to data rooms to protect the equipment they just installed for their customers. I think this is a great way to get started as end users are easily persuaded to add protection for the large capital project they just finished.
