ABP announces an innovative use of Altai Super WiFi

ABP announces an innovative use of Altai Super WiFi and Mobotix cameras to solve a Video Surveillance project that was plagued by the usual problems of cabling to the NAS and the real-time network data through-put and accessibility.

The problem was that a Marina, located on one of the largest lakes in the Mid-West, needed to install a video surveillance system to monitor the large investment housed at the facility and also enable customer access to view their property on-line.

The ABP solution was made relatively simple by combining the flexibility of the Altai Super WiFi and the rugged high resolution IP Mobotix camera product line. After analysis of the requirements, ABP recommended a network of 8 Altai C1s collocated with the Mobotix cameras. The network was based on an Altai A3 AP hub with the C1s / Mobotix cameras subtending. The network is shown below.

An Altai A3 was utilized as the backbone network hub located at the head-end NAS location and at each camera location we collocated an Altai C1 with the Mobotix camera. Actually, more than one camera can be connected to the C1 if necessary.

The diagram on the side, demonstrates the method for collocation and connectivity between the C1 and the camera. This was relativity simple whereby the POEs for the C1 and the camera was located in an environmental NEMA box connected to AC power. The C1 was configured in Station Mode and connected via RJ45 cabling to the Mobotix camera and served as the repeater / bridge for IP video data.

The installation only took a few days to complete and now the Marina owner and his clients can view the Marina remotely at their convenience. Local private security, as well as Public service, also has full access to the Video Security Surveillance system. The Customer, his clients and our VAR are extremely satisfied with this real-time solution.

Surveillance system retains 100% success rate over 7 years

Mobotix has announcef that their CCTV solution at Bromsgrove School has helped protect pupils, staff and property across a 100 acre site for over seven years without fail. The project which was designed, implemented and maintained by NS Optimum Ltd includes 35 cameras delivering megapixel quality as part of a combined data, voice and video network.

With a history spanning over 500 years, Bromsgrove is one of Britain’s finest independent schools attended by over 1500 pupils from 35 countries.  In 2003, the school decided to improve its security measures in response to concerns over pupil and staff safety.

For expert advice, the school approached NS Optimum Ltd, an ICT solution provider who had successfully implemented and managed its IT network for many years. Based on a striking demonstration of the capabilities of the Mobotix technology, the school agreed to deploy Mobotix DualNight Megapixel cameras at key entrance points across the campus. “The initial deployment was extremely successful and provided good coverage over critical areas,” explains Scott Fisher, Network Manager for Bromsgrove School, “The Mobotix method of compressing and sending IP video allowed us to run CCTV without upgrading our network with no negative impacting on data or voice traffic.”

Over the subsequent 7 years, the School has increased the coverage of the CCTV network to include its preparatory school, pre-preparatory, nursery, boarding houses, all car parks and even some sports facilities. “We now have several Mobotix hemispheric cameras which give us complete 360 degree coverage of entire areas like the computer rooms and library while the ability to use internal camera memory means that we only archive footage at night to ensure that the data network is always fully available for students and staff.”

Over the last 7 years, the Mobotix CCTV installation has suffered no mechanical faults, “We don’t use any protective housing or heaters and all of the cameras have given us 100% reliability,” explains Fisher, “The cameras are incredibly discreet and key staff around the campus can instantly access both live and archived footage from anywhere on the site with the proper security clearance.”

“We have had no major incidents across Bromsgrove but the quality of the images and the lack of drain on the network or management overheads provide us with a perfect system for a healthy school environment.” Fisher concludes.

ISS Responds to Mayor Bloomberg’s Call for More Smart Cameras

Agrees with Mayor that Surveillance Technology Must Be Improved to Meet Security Needs

Woodbridge, NJ—May 13, 2010—Intelligent Security Systems (ISS), the industry leader in video management and image analytic software, and which recently expanded its SecurOS License Plate Recognition (LPR) system to all fifty US states, commented today on the attempted bombing in Times Square on May 1st, and Mayor Bloomberg’s call for more “smart cameras”.
The Mayor is in London this week to observe the highly intelligent camera system known as the “ring of steel” that is employed in London, a state-of-the-art cyber video and data collection network. New York City plans to spend $200 million on 3000 such cameras for Lower Manhattan and eventually expand it to Manhattan. Such cameras could alert authorities to suspicious packages, a car parked in a turning lane (as happened with the Times Square bombing suspect) and would also include both mobile and fixed LPR systems.
“Related to LPR, what is significant here is that the suspect in question entered New York City with a stolen plate, apparently taken off a car at a repair shop in Connecticut,” said Aluisio Figueiredo, Chief Operating Officer at ISS. “Our company has actually developed very unique LPR that can spot if a license plate does not match the vehicle in question. It can do that even if the plate has not yet been reported as stolen. This could have been very helpful in this case, as an alert could have been sent to authorities before the suspect ever entered the city. We completely agree with the Mayor that there is a strong need in New York and other metropolitan areas for highly intelligent cameras and advanced LPR.”
ISS, which has deep roots in space technology, has developed advanced algorithms that provide key advantages for LPR, which include faster and more accurate reads, and an overall level of intelligence that was previously only available for government and military applications.
LPR solutions must ideally be able to read plates accurately at high levels of speed and in all sorts of weather and lighting conditions. Regardless of whether the images are high resolution and uncompressed or low resolution and compressed, ISS finds the right algorithms to match particular conditions—lighting, weather, etc—and provide the clearest plate recognition possible. With ISS, the same technology that has been used to provide crystal clear satellite and rocket images now watches over highways, tunnels, workplaces, and public areas and keeps them safer.
“The bottom line is that you often have just milliseconds to get a read on a license plate and get it right,” said Wolfgang Ritter, Director of Sales and Marketing for ISS. ” He concluded, “Overall, our solutions are geared to keep pace with high traffic volumes, and instantly provide detailed incident and event information. For Times Square, New York City in general, and other large cosmopolitan centers, LPR can help automate the security process in such a way that it becomes an indispensable part of crime fighting and homeland security efforts.”
The highly intelligent LPR of ISS can automatically distinguish an ‘8’ from a ‘B’, read horizontally as well as vertically—a crucial differentiator when one needs more information—and in general instantly know the rules that apply in each case. Also, ISS LPR recognizes color, which is important when one must know if a plate is particular to a government vehicle, taxi, or a regular citizen, etc, all of which are assigned specific plate colors in certain areas. With that comes the possibility of one sort of vehicle sharing the same or a similar plate number as another vehicle.
The company’s SecurOS Auto LPR software is part of their SecurOS Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), which includes the SecurOS Traffic module, an intelligent image analytics bundle that in addition to incident detection, provides real time traffic flow metrics and statistical analysis. Whether it’s a vehicle traveling too slow or too fast or in the wrong direction, to insufficient gaps in traffic, ITS can immediately send an alarm and provide complex reaction management. It can also track statistical information on a roadway such as average speed, vehicle counts, and density computations to create extremely robust statistical reports. In addition, it works very well with third party traffic management solutions.
The company’s solutions for ITS are currently being deployed around the world, and include the United States, Brazil, and Russia. In Brazil it includes, among other areas, South America’s biggest traffic tunnel, and in the US various law enforcement projects in New Jersey, including the cities of Deal, Watchung, Maplewood, and Bradley Beach.

LPR and POS Technology from ISS Deters Crime at Convenience Store Retail Chains

Advantages of Space Technology Used to Stop Indoor Theft and Gas Drive Offs

Woodbridge, NJ—April 22, 2010—Intelligent Security Systems (ISS), a leader in video management and image analytic software, announced today that it has developed Point of Sale (POS) and License Plate Recognition (LPR) solutions that are designed to support Loss Prevention in and outside convenience store chains and other retail facilities. The combination of Point of Sale (POS) surveillance and License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology is ideal for retailers that must regularly deal with cash register “shrinkage”, merchandise theft, and gas drive offs. The solution can also be used very effectively at malls. Intelligent Security Systems’ roots in space technology and expertise with highly advanced algorithms have made possible a level of accuracy and intelligence in the civilian security sphere that was formerly only available for government and military applications.

SecurOS POS is a software based system that can link live video from checkout surveillance cameras with transaction data. It allows for search of specific transactions, review of the exact video information applying to this transaction and many other investigation options. SecurOS POS can search transaction data by a variety of individual or permutations of multiple search criteria, including date and time, employee number, terminal number, item numbers (SKUs), customer, transaction amount, payment type, credit card, merchandise returns, and voided transactions

Highly advanced image analytic capabilities allow the software to monitor cashier movements and send alerts—via phone, email, or SMS— when suspected activities such as shorting the register or unscanned items occur.

The company’s LPR solution is noted for its unique ability to read characters on license plates vertically as well as horizontally—a key advantage when other information is sought than just the plate number —and to do so under the most adverse lighting and weather conditions. In cases of gas drive offs, these quick, extremely accurate reads increase the likelihood of offenders being caught and prosecuted.

Other stores connected to the SecurOS server are alerted when the license plate of such a suspect enters their vicinity. For security staff at malls, such LPR technology keeps track of all vehicles entering and leaving the area, and can be a very valuable forensic tool in the event of a criminal incident. Additional features, such as Facial Recognition can be added and alert the staff if a known shoplifter is entering one of the connected outlets. Interfaces to Loss Prevention Tagging Systems allow smart combinations with active and passive RFID technology.

“In challenging economic times, the need for more advanced security solutions tends to grow exponentially,” said Aluisio Figueiredo, Chief Operating Officer of ISS. “For retail businesses such as convenience store chains, the double whammy of inside theft, whether by a clerk or a customer, and outside theft in the form of gas drive offs, can add up to major economic losses over time. With SecurOS, ISS becomes a specialized Loss Prevention provider for retailers, both by automating the security process with an unprecedented level of business intelligence and by providing a potential deterrent to would be offenders.”

Seamless Integration of Overland SnapServer Storage and Mobotix IP Video Cameras Lowers

Surveillance Deployment Costs and Minimizes Installation Errors

SAN DIEGO – February 2, 2010 – Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL), a leading, global

specialist in backup, recovery and archive, and Mobotix AG, the technology leader for highresolution

network camera systems, today introduced a unified management console that

simplifies the deployment of world class video surveillance and archive solutions featuring

Mobotix IP network camera systems and Overland’s award-winning family of SnapServer

network-attached storage (NAS) products. The companies have seamlessly integrated the

configuration of IP cameras, video management software and network video storage for

extreme ease of management, flexibility and scalability, making the combined solution ideal for

hotels, retail shops, parking structures and multi-tenant buildings.

Led by Check Your Security, Ltd., a security systems integration company based in Norfolk,

United Kingdom, Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust recently implemented

Mobotix cameras and Overland Storage SnapServer storage to provide a leading-edge video

capture and archive system for around-the-clock security monitoring to protect patients, visitors

and hospital staff. “The combined Overland and Mobotix solution was superior,” said David

Perry, senior estates project manager for Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

“The cameras offered three Megapixel image quality, two-way audio over IP, Power over

Ethernet (PoE), sealed external weatherproof housing and the ability to add SnapServer storage

capacity with ‘plug and play’ simplicity. The embedded MxControlCenter surveillance software

was a real bonus that led to measurable cost savings in terms of seamless, simplified

operation.”

With the latest version of Mobotix’s MxControlCenter video management software, installers can

use a consolidated user interface to set up IP cameras with any local or remote SnapServer

storage connected to the video surveillance network. The video management software

automatically discovers all available SnapServer devices and provides installation wizards to

easily configure the TCP/IP network information. By using the Mobotix control center to manage

both the cameras and NAS storage, Overland and Mobotix have reduced the overall

implementation process by approximately 50 percent, lowering deployment costs and

complexities while minimizing the chance of installation errors.

As technology partners, Overland and Mobotix worked closely to incorporate unique features

into both the SnapServer and Mobotix MxControlCenter to further simplify implementation. To

that end, Overland has added a centralized “time” server capability to SnapServer systems to

support the synchronization of timestamps on all videos captured by IP cameras. Recent testing

of Overland’s SnapServer systems in the Mobotix Camera Lab has proven that SnapServers

can handle the data-intensive storage demands for up to 80 simultaneous, high-resolution

camera streams.

“We have continued to see a growing demand for IP-based video surveillance and archive

solutions that don’t require special networking or storage expertise. Organizations are seeking

simple solutions to complex problems and to that end, Overland and Mobotix have

accomplished that with a single interface for managing both IP video cameras and storage

archives,” said Jillian Mansolf, vice president of global sales and marketing. “Together, we’re

lowering deployment barriers and making it easier for our partners to provide customers with

best-of-class IP video cameras and highly scalable storage to meet a wide range of video

surveillance requirements.”

“There is no easier to use or more cost effective solution on the market today,” said Peter

McKee, global marketing director of Mobotix AG. “As a result, our network-based HiRes video

surveillance and archive solutions are gaining momentum worldwide as organizations upgrade

from older, analog cameras to the latest and most innovative technologies. We are

simultaneously seeing a continuing rise in new installations featuring our high-resolution, digital

cameras and embedded video management solution paired with Overland’s high-performance

storage. We look forward to continuing our strategic alliance with Overland as we collaborate on
